Please Forget About Me

This collection of songs goes back to the seventies. Except for the title song, “Please Forget About Me”, all songs were recorded in December 1977. Intended as a demo account of piano/vocal renditions of my originals, as I transferred them from reel-to-reel tape, I realized that these were the truest and most comfortable renditions of the songs to date.

These represent many of the very early songs of my career. That rather magical time when writing a song was simply transferring what I heard in my mind. It is a case of ignorance is bliss. Not having studied songwriting, they were fragile, honest and innocent.

This group of songs is a continuation of a collection that I look as being my journal. Probably the most amazing part of the process is that songs 2 through 14 were all recorded during the afternoon of December 26, 1977 (it was labeled on the original reel). It was because I performed so often that I knew these songs so well, and it was easy to sit and perform them without thinking. One or two takes was all that was needed. That may be where the magic came from because once you think about the performance you tend to get in the way of the music.

As I transferred these reel-to-reel tapes to the digital domain, I was amazed at what good shape they were in. Granted, it takes a mastering expertise to make them compatible with the digital domain and leave the analog sound of the 70s intact.

As you listen to the songs, you can see that my career as a singer-songwriter during my 20s was a joy. I performed in front of thousands of people and lived in such a magical reality. I hope you enjoy these thoughts and offerings of such a natural effort as much as I enjoy still having them to offer.
